PSI Scuba Diving Program for Cylinder Inspection Technicians This Weekend in Montreal
Every once in a while, we offer “PSI Training Week-Ends”. Whether you “need” the training for your career plans in the dive industry, or you simply want to know more about scuba diving cylinders, you’ll live a very unique eye-opening week-end!
It includes a series of PSI courses over 3 days, starting Friday evening with “HazMat Handler” and “Fill Station Operator”. We continue on Saturday with the “Visual Cylinder Inspector” course. We complete the training on Sunday with “Eddy Current Service Technician” and “Valve Repair Technician”.
Our next week-end is: December 9-11, 2011.
Call right away at 514-482-1890 or 1-888-482-1890.

PSI is the “Professional Scuba Inspectors” training agency. Darcy Kieran is a PSI instructor. However, for this week-end in December, Paul Boissinot, from Quebec City, will be coming to Montreal to teach the program.
What are each one of these courses?
HazMat Handler of SCUBA & SCBA Cylinders: Regulations require all employees who are affected by high pressure cylinders to receive “function specific” training to the HAZMAT material to which they are exposed. In our case, compressed air is an hazardous material. If you are a team member in a dive school or dive shop, you must get that training.
Fill Station Operator (FSO): Businesses who operate cylinder filling stations are required to provide training to employees operating filling equipment before they use such equipment. Logical, hey? So… If you’re a divemaster or scuba diving instructor, you should have proof that you’ve received that training before filling cylinders.
Visual Cylinder Inspector (VCI): This certification course teaches the basics of conducting the annual visual inspections of solid wall and composite SCUBA and SCBA cylinders. It’s an obvious requirement if you want to work as a scuba diving service technician. It’s just as highly valuable for any team member in a dive center, since we always have a lot of cylinders to inspect - e.g. all of our rental cylinders! If you want to find a job in the dive industry, this will be a great certificate to include with your resume!
Eddy Current Service Technician: Eddy Current testing is a powerful addition to visual cylinder inspection. However, many people in the dive industry continues to use such devices on the wrong cylinders or fail to operate the equipment properly.
Valve Repair Technician: This course provides a broad overview of valve types, valve repair and valve care. It is approved by the valve manufacturers. If you want to do visual cylinder inspections… Shouldn’t you be able to deal with the valve too?!
How much?
The cost of the week-end is $620, including 5 diplomas (3 from PSI) and Bill High’s book on cylinder inspections.
